Any ideas where I could take the car to look at the central computer issue? Or are the eletircs on these not worth playing with?

If it's a 1999 it doesn't have a trip computer just a time/date display, also no automatic lights or wipers. The trip computer only came in when they introduced multiplexed wiring from 2001.

what about door open light/fule warning light etc ? someone took the stock radio out so that has affected the little radio column thing.

Yeah if you remove the factory stereo you will lose the stalk controls.

You can buy an adapter to fit some head decks to retain this functionality
