Hello all,
six or so years back I had the great pleasure of owning a beautiful, Thames-assembled 1978 Peugeot 504. One day it overheated on the back-roads behind Waihi and it was all downhill from there. (I am not a mechanic and the car lived outside.) Anyway, onwards and upwards. We currently have a Daimler but I would one day love to fashion a "sort-of new" 504 in my own special way.
Of course, as this is a dream, A) It can come true and B) I shall be paying for it with "dream currency", and C) the mechanic will always be available to work on the construction. Ahem ...

Its major points will be as follows. (Did I say these are subject to change?)

1. All the removable body panels will be perfectly and exactly reproduced in weight-saving aluminium. All remaining bodywork to be rustproofed, galvanised, undersealed ... whatever it takes.
2. Enough sound-proofing fitted so that the very fabulous stereo can be clearly heard (this will obviously add on the weight again  :P).
3. Perhaps a nice, reconditioned and mildly-tuned V6 with 4-speed auto would be nice, if this combo is compatible. Someone will tell me if it isn't :D.
4. Updated handling but only where necessary, as I loved how mine used to handle.
5. Aircon and power steering to be fitted.
6. Alloy wheels (Minilites, maybe?) and modern tyres to suit.
7. Immaculately applied paintwork. Probably a dark colour, mainly because my white one rusted more quickly due to moisture not drying out, I was told.
8. Stainless exhaust system.
9. New electrics throughout.
10. Tinted, electric glass all round.
11. Upholstery? Not sure at this stage but 504 seats must be among the most comfortable in the world. Maybe some nice leather would look good.
12. A garage to put it in.

Well, that should cover it for now. Off to the Lotto shop I go.

I wish you all the best with your yelling at a Peugeot ;D

I will try help in any way I can, however my knowledge is kind of limited to 205's. However there's plenty of mechanics and other specialists here that will more than likely know the answers to your questions 8)

Take it to Bishops

I won't burst your bubble.

But I will say A BA7/5 would be nicer and easier than a 4 speed slugmatic
Heaven is where the police are British, the chefs Italians, the mechanics German, the lovers French and its all organised by the Swiss. Hell is where the police are German, the chefs British, the mechanics French, the lovers Swiss and its all organised by the Italians.

I am quite sure that by the time I have any photos there will be an entirely new way to show them to you all!  :D

True, there are many benefits of going manual but this car is purely being dreamt up for comfort, and in the mobile clubroom of my dreams a gearshift represents hard work. ;)

I also thought that a portable gas stove with bottle and a fridge somewhere would make sensible additions to this project.

Speaking of hard work, the first thing on my shopping list after the winning lotto ticket would be a decent donor car and a well-lit workshop somewhere. Right now I have no cash for projects and do my fettling at Garage Pavement. And there's the small matter of the Lambretta I'd like to restore by the time it's 50 which is in 18 months.
