Hi all,
got a 2000 UK import 306 XS 3 door that I have decided to start playing with.
Yes I know it would be best buying a GTI6 straight off the bat but we have owned this for 5 years and it doesn't owe us a cent and since it's tidy and low milage I would like to improve it to make it better for track days etc.
I would like to start with brakes and tyres and from what I've read it looks like the 283mm rotors and calipers from a GTI6 is the go.
Would it be better grabbing the full set or are the rears on the GTI the same as the standard ones?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Oh and to confirm how bonkers we are, our work race team currently does the 24 hours of LeMons in a 1987 Renault 21... yes, we need lots of treatment.
Thanks.

Rear brakes are all the same afaik.
With the 283mm front brakes off Gti-6 / 307 you'll need to upgrade the wheel rims for the caliper to fit, and you'll also definitely need a bigger master cylinder. Another option could be 266mm brakes off a 206 GTI that will bolt straight up, m/c and wheel upgrade would then be optional only.

Thanks for that.
I'm already running the 6.5j x 15" rims which seem to be standard fitment on the GTI of the same year so I'm presuming that the 283's will fit.  I'll have a hunt round and see if I can find some 266mm rotors and calipers with some decent pads and give them pounding next weekend out.
Definite change is going to dot5 brake fluid, discovered that I had been boiling it on every 15 minute stint on track which has made a bit of a mess.  No brake fade though so I've been lucky that way.

I have a pair of 307 discs and calliper sitting in the garage...was intending to do the same but other priorities came along.

Quick update... Artic1 came to the party (thanks heaps) and I fitted the 283mm rotors and calipers a couple of weekends back.
They fit inside the rims nicely and brake performance with the standard master cylinder is fantastic!
Fresh lot of dot4 high temp brake fluid to help with the boiling issue and the next job is brake cooling and scoring some higher spec pads.
