Peugeot 306 failing fabric

Hi all, the fabric covering on the door liners of my 306 is falling off, which looks a bit sad so I thought I'd do something about it - plastic underneath no doubt, I thought, and could probably be painted.
Under the fabric is a glue residue, which seems to be the stickiest goo ever invented. There's also some kind of foam backing over the plastic, which in places is clamped between the 2 parts of the door liner (which are plastic welded together).
Every 306 I've seen has this problem so finding replacement liners in good nick would be unlikely.
Has anyone had the same issue and solved it without spending a heap of money?

Welcome.

What model and year 306 is it? Early ones tend to suffer more than later models in my experience.
I have heard of people removing the fabric and cleaning the glue off, then re-gluing the fabric down again. Not sure what product was used or how effective it  was though.
Motor trimmers should be able to do something, but no idea what they would charge (or what your definition of 'a heap of money' is).

It's a 97 xsi. No doubt a pro could repair it but it needs other things doing too, such as a repaint, so may just be better off buying one in better condition. I'm quite keen on a gti6 or 205.

A reupholster will charge you $220 to redo your existing one. Otherwise its a waiting game until the right headliner pops up.

Funnily enough I currently have a nice late model gti-6 for sale. It's in the 'For Sale' section that you won't be able to access just yet. PM me if you're interested.

Thanks Pug406. 220 x 4 = as I suspected, quite a lot! Admittedly would be a bit of work for an upholsterer. A better idea is start with a 3 door, so there's half as many liners to fix, and one day replace them with some cool carbon fibre liners like I've seen on a UK site 8)

I'd buy a spray can of F2 contact adhesive and go nuts. It may not end up looking perfect, but will tidy it up a bit!

In a past life I built guitar amplifiers.   To upholster the cabinets I used good ol' F2... worked great.  Coat both surfaces, wait a few mins,  line them up, close your eyes, go for it....
